Customer Reviews

This is truly an amazing machine. A huge step up from my old 1.6ghz single-core laptop. The computer is extremely fast and the fingerprint reader is far beyond what I expected. You can 'enroll' your fingerprints (any fingers you want, you can even do all of them) and then set certain fingers to open certain programs. Up to 3 on each finger.
The webcam is very good as well. I was surprised how well it works in low light situations. You can see perfectly!
The only thing I dislike about the computer is the mouse. But you're gonna hear that from the majority of people with a dv6 or similar model. (I bought an external mouse to fix the issue). It's hard to press down when you are trying to drag something. But when you are just browsing the internet then it is fine because I just tap it. I like how it has a mouse lock. You tap twice the small circle in the upper left hand corner and it's locked. Do the same to unlock it.
Also, what I didn't like at first, but now I don't mind, is the keyboard. It has an extra set of keys on the left hand side making it kind of confusing to know where your fingers are. At first I was thinking about returning it but then I got used to it. The keys feel great, well at least to me.
In my opinion you should check out this laptop in store first to see if you like the mouse and keyboard and such.
Overall, this is a great machine (besides the mouse of course). If you think you can look past that flaw then this would be a great product for you at a great price!
BTW- I didn't buy from Amazon (It was $699 at the time). I'm not sure how great Amazon is with computer products. I bought it from office max for $549 on 2/4/11. But they're most likely sold out by now. If you want a cheaper price than amazon, which I recommend, go to HP.com or office depot. Which are both $599.

Hope you have better luck with HP than I have. I just bought an HP dv6. Upon setting it up, I noticed that the wireless dropped frequently and the notebook would then be unable to find the network. It took me a week or so to realize the problem was the brand new home theater notebook. I called HP and spent the first two hours of the call following instructions from their "award winning" help desk. Near the end of that part of the call, the rep took over my machine and attempted a bios update. It failed, and the machine will no longer even boot. He then routed my call to a "warranty rep" (or something like that) who came on the line a half hour later. He said HP would arrange to have the machine repaired, as they had determined it was a defective motherboard. I told him I wanted the machine replaced, as it was brand new and defective out of the box. Repairing it and sending it back to me would have me in the position of paying full price for a refurbished machine. He felt there would be a means that HP would leave me satisfied and said I would be contacted the next day. The next day I was contacted and told there was no way they would replace my machine, though they acknowledged it was defective out of the box and that their representative had "bricked" it.
HP quality control is poor. They appear to have reached a corporate decision to send out defective machines and then repair them under warranty. This allows them to sell what would ultimately be "refurbs" as full price machines. They would have to repair them anyway, but this way they capture a higher price. I am not an HP basher. Of the half dozen laptops in my home, three are HP products. I am running four HP printers. HP until now had been my preferred brand. Going forward, the HP name on a product will inspire suspicion rather than confidence. Finally, I should mention that the last printer I bought (three months ago), also HP, was also dead out of the box (they sent a new one). It appears that quality control and cultivating customer good will are considered poor business practices by HP.
